Según ha informado Argentinos Alerta en su página web, más de 60 líderes políticos, y otros tantos líderes civiles y académicos, procedentes de 20 países de Europa, Latinoamérica, Norteamérica y África se reunirán en la sede de las Naciones Unidas el 5 de Diciembre próximo con el compromiso de apoyar y fortalecer la familia como un objetivo esencial para lograr el desarrollo sostenible. Esta cumbre que se celebra con el nombre de Transatlantic Summit 2014 y bajo el lema «Fortaleciendo la familia para el desarrollo sostenible. ¿Qué tan lejos podemos llegar?», está organizada por la interesantísima  «Political Network for Values» (Red Política por los Valores). El evento coincide con la celebración del XX Aniversario del Año Internacional de la Familia.

A las 10:00 horas se realizará el encuentro en el salón de conferencias 1 de la sede de la ONU, donde los ponentes serán, entre otros, el Sr. Zoltan Balog,  ministro húngaro de Recursos Humanos y miembro de la asamblea nacional de Hungría desde el 2006; Sr. Jeff Fortenberry,  represente del Distrito de Nebraska en la Cámara de Representantes del Congreso de los EEUU desde el 2004; Sr. Oscar Ivan Zuluaga, presidente del partido Centro Democrático de Colombia, y ex candidato presidencial en las elecciones del 2014 y  Dr. Helen M. Alvaré, catedrática en la facultad de derecho de la universidad George Mason en Virginia, EEUU.

Posteriormente a las 12:45 horas se realizará una conferencia de prensa en la sala de prensa de Naciones Unidas en la que se explicarán los alcances del encuentro y la presentación de la Declaración sobre los Derechos de la Familia.

La lista de ponentes de esta cumbre puede dar idea de su importancia de cara al impulso de nuevas políticas con perspectiva de familia a nivel mundial, como elemento fundamental para un verdadero desarrollo sostenible en el planeta. Es de detacar también la relevante participación de políticos españoles.
